RESEARCH TOOLS & MATERIALS

NHAHA's Health disparity framework recognizes the importance for Research and data collection and connecting this data to develop specific strategies and interventions to reduce different health disparities facing the Haitian American community.

Our more immediate goal is to collect data that gauges community's knowledge, and attitudes towards health disparities and epidemiological data that would give us a baseline of the health status of the Haitian community in the selected health areas of HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, Diabetes, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease.

NHAHA's second annual conference entitled: "Utilizing Clinical Based knowledge to support new Prevention Initiatives in the Haitian Community" underscored that need.

Current Research:

HIV/AIDS: Over the past year, NHAHA has been collaborating on collecting and analyzing HIV data that is currently in print:

HIV among Haitian-born persons in the United States, 1985-2007 Marc, Linda G; Patel-Larson, Alpa; Hall, H Irene; Hughes, Denise; Alegría, Margarita; Jeanty, Georgette; Eveillard, Yanick Sanon; Jean-Louis, Eustache; for the National Haitian-American Health Alliance

We are very proud of this work as the data will help us and our organization members to tailor specific and more targeted prevention interventions to our population. This will serve as a stepping stone for more research investigation in all the other selected health areas. We are more specifically looking into Diabetes data to further the current efforts of our Haitian Diabetes Project.
