Background
Haiti is still reeling from the devastating earthquake of 2010, which exacerbated the already dire health conditions that have plagued the country for the last century. Last year, at the midst of the Cholera outbreak, the conference provided a great platform for examining the systems issues at the private, public and community levels. It revealed a weak infrastructure, inadequate human resources; a lack of coordination among service providers; poor health access resulting in suboptimal health outcomes for the population.

This year's conference will seek practical solutions and ideas to address Haiti's health disparities, framing issues within a global health context. The status of the populations' health in Haiti can provide great lessons for those interested in Global Health. With knowledge that problems can move across national borders, countries can learn from one another to address health care crises. For example, rising incidences of diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB are increasing poverty and political instability in many countries. That in turn has political and economic consequences worldwide. This conference will provide insight for individuals in both developed and developing countries interested in reducing global health disparities.
