MISSION
The mission of the National Haitian Health Alliance (NHAHA) is to improve the health and welfare of Haitians by enhancing communication, promoting and facilitating collaborative projects and fostering cooperative relationships among similar organizations through coordinated resource and information sharing, advocacy, capacity building and education.
VISION
The National Haitian American Health Alliance (NHAHA) wants to position itself as a long-lasting institution that can quickly respond to emerging health crisis that affect Haitians. The National Haitian American Health Alliance strongly believes that the first source of resources in community development is the community itself. The Alliance envisions having a broad membership base that pulls its strength from the contribution of experts, researchers, providers, consumers and all stakeholders in the community to create a Haitian think-tank; a top-quality resource on health and welfare issues affecting Haitians.
VALUES
NHAHA believes that the success of the community depends on the ability of its people to organize its resources in a targeted, deliberate and systematic manner and that collaboration is the key element to an organized community. As a membership organization, NHAHA's guiding principle is based on community involvement and participation. NHAHA is rooted in the community from its inception. NHAHA is structured to ensure wide community input that represents the true realities of our communities.
PHILOSOPHY
NHAHA believes in the definition of health as not just the absence of disease but the overall well being of an individual. NHAHA believes that the health of a community is influenced by social conditions, physical environment, genetic endowment, and health care systems. Therefore NHAHA stands ready to work with not only health entities but also with other entities that do not generally see themselves as having a direct health-related role such as schools, social service agencies, transportation and justice agencies and faith communities.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
The National Haitian Health Alliance (NHAHA) is based in New York with regional caucuses in major cities such as Miami and Boston. A national Board with representation from NHAHA's designated regions will form the central governing body of the organization. NHAHA will support the development of caucuses to:
1. Select a Region chair, represented on the Board
2. Host an annual meeting
3. Create a forum for region members to discuss and address region specific issues
4. Advise the national board on regional issues. Region affiliates will play a focal role in supporting and facilitating regions' meetings and activities
